EatwiseRx Lauds Supreme Court Decision to Maintain Preventive Care Coverage
Millions of Americans With Diabetes Will Continue to Have Access to Critical
Preventive Treatment Services Under the Affordable Care Act
BUFFALO, New York, June 28, 2012 – EatwiseRx, the Western New York Diabetes Diet Experts, lauded the Supreme Court decision to maintain requirements to provide Americans with coverage for critical preventive medical care services. The decision means that millions of Americans with diabetes will continue to have free access to nutrition counseling to help them better manage their disease.
“Nutrition counseling is critical to helping people with diabetes manage their disease and live a healthy life,” said Jeff Ensminger, R.D. and Director of Clinical Services for EatwiseRx. “Today’s decision reinforces the importance of preventive care and ensures that millions of Americans will continue to have free access to life-changing medical services.”
Diabetes is on the rise, and while there is no cure, research shows that a healthy diet plays a
critical role in diabetes management. According to the American Diabetes Association, nutrition counseling is a critical component in controlling diabetes and postponing or preventing diabetes-related complications and recommends that all people with diabetes include this as part of their treatment plan. Under the Affordable Care Act, nutrition counseling will continue to be free to Medicare recipients with diabetes and most insurance plans have waived all patient responsibility (no copay/no deductibles), covering 100% of the cost of nutrition counseling for diabetes.
EatwiseRx believes that everyone with diabetes should know about these services and have
better access to them.
